Description

Taught by Irving staff psychologist Mr. Juan Carlos Funes

Attention Irving Eagles-- we need YOUR help to save Sasquatch! The evil Schmoke brothers are back, and this time they are after the Sasquatch of the Pacific Northwest! Our mission is to save Bigfoot. Join Irving's Mythical Creature Rescue Society, a secret society of Irving students whose mission is to save mythical creatures from danger—creatures like dragons, sasquatches, the Loch Ness monster, chupacabras, sea serpents, and more. But our enemies are powerful, and ruthless, and we'll need all the help we can get. So bring your favorite mythical creature stuffy, buckle up (because you'll be going on a plane ride to the Pacific Northwest--shhh, maybe don't mention that part to your parents), and join Professor Fauna, Uchenna, Elliott, and your Irving friends for our next adventure. [Note: Each session is independent; it is not necessary to have attended a previous session to jump in (or back in) at any time!]

More info: In this ongoing EE series, students will join middle-schoolers Uchenna Devereaux and Elliot Eisner as members of a secret society of kids from all over the world dedicated to keeping our mythical creatures safe, led by their eccentric and knowledgeable social studies teacher, Professor Fauna. Students in this class will travel the world with Professor Fauna and an Irving teacher who will read aloud a new book in the Unicorn Rescue Society series each session and play related games and activities, all from a cozy corner at Irving. (Blankets and stuffies welcome!) Each session begins with a read-aloud of about 30 min followed by engaging group activities like tracking mythical creature footprints, playing the mythical creature card game, building villain dossiers, and exploring the cultures and regions featured in the stories, from the dragons of Basque Country to the Sasquatches of the Pacific Northwest and Indigenous territories in the U.S. Kids will build literacy, teamwork, and curiosity while diving into magical adventures across the globe. Each member will be issued their own official Unicorn Rescue Society membership card and earn collector cards for each creature they save.

This fall's session focuses on Book 3: Sasquatch & Muckleshoot. We'll read Book 4: Chupacabra in Winter/Spring 2027.
