About Eagle Extras

Irving PTO runs Eagle Extras, a structured enrichment program that offers a wide variety of after-school classes for Irving students. From arts to sports, music to crafting, these classes are taught by beloved Irving teachers and teaching assistants and by outside partners who bring expertise and energy to each session.

• Two sessions are offered: Fall and Winter/Spring
• Each session runs for multiple weeks (13–15 weeks per session), held after school
• Caregivers register for individual classes when registration opens
• Scholarships and financial assistance are available
• New this year: integrated after care spots until 5:30pm (limited spots available)

• EAGLE EXTRAS FALL 2026: Sept 14–Dec 11 (13 weeks)
• EAGLE EXTRAS WINTER/SPRING 2027: Jan 19–May 7 (15 weeks)

A note about Eagles Bridge: Eagles Bridge is not returning this year. In its place, Magical Minds —a separately run, highly-regarded after-school program— will be offering daily after-school arts-based creative programming year-round, as well as week-long camps before Eagle Extras begins in mid-September, after EE concludes in early May, and during parent/teacher conference weeks. Magical Minds is not run or managed by the PTO. Stay tuned for more details and registration info.

Also new this year: integrated EE aftercare options available (!) through our partnership with Magical Minds! (Spots limited; see details below.)

Registration Info

Registration Dates:

• Eagle Extras Fall 2026: Opens Sun, Aug 30 at 8:30pm — Closes Mon, Sept 7 at 8:30pm
• Eagle Extras Winter/Spring 2027: Opens Sun, Nov 21 at 8:30pm — Closes Sat, Dec 5 at 8:30pm

Registration Details:

• No Class Days: When you register, please note the no-class days. Fall 2026 no-class days are: Sept 21 (District Closed), Oct 12 (Indigenous Peoples’ Day), Oct 19–23 (Teacher Conferences week), Nov 3 (Election Day), and Nov 25–27 (Wed-Fri of Thanksgiving Break).
• Registration Troubles: If you are unable to use our online registration system, please let us know via email ([email protected]) and we will make other arrangements.
• Limited Space/Waitlist: Space is limited and classes are filled on a first come first serve basis. Please register early to reserve your child’s spot in the class(es). Also please utilize the wait list option if a class is showing as full when you try to enroll. We will do our best to accommodate all interested, and while we cannot make guarantees we are sometimes able to expand classes.
• Cancellations: Classes with an outdoor component may be canceled due to inclement weather. Please be advised that efforts will be made to make up the missed time when feasible. Refunds will not be issued for classes canceled due to weather. Classes that have to be canceled due to an instructor emergency or illness will be handled on a case by case basis.
• Late registrations are not guaranteed. The parent volunteers need time to assemble class rosters for the on-site coordinators, teachers, instructors and office staff. We are not able to accommodate changes in the schedule after the registration period is over. Questions? Please contact [email protected].
• Payment plans! When you are registering you can elect to participate in a payment plan at no additional cost to you! Note: payment plan details are tentative — we are working out the specifics with our new registration platform.
• Snacks: Eagle Extras will provide one small snack for each child (raisins, pretzels, fish crackers, or similar), included in the price of your child’s class. You may of course send a different or additional snack with your child on Eagle Extras days.

Program Logistics

• Please notify your child’s teacher that they are participating in Eagle Extras. We provide a list to teachers as well. For those children enrolled in Eagle Extras, they will be directed to go to the auditorium at the end of the school day by their teachers (you do not need to come to the school to take them to this class).
• Once in the auditorium, they will wait with supervision to be picked up by their Eagle Extras teacher. Kids enrolled in the after-school programs of Hephzibah or Oak Park Friends School can participate in Eagle Extras and just need to check in with their respective programs before going to their Eagle Extras class.
• For kids in other after-school programs, you need to check with those programs directly to see if they can make accommodations to pick up your child once their Eagle Extra class is over.
• NO iPads or any other electronic devices are allowed in EE classes (except where explicitly required for an EE class activity) or while waiting in the auditorium: please remind your child of this; if they take out their iPad they will be asked to turn them off and put them away and repeated violations of this expectation may result in temporary confiscation of the device until dismissal. If you’d like help setting up parental controls so your child’s iPad automatically turns off at 3pm, Screen Sense Oak Park has guidance.

Scholarships

• Scholarships are available! If your child qualifies for free/reduced lunch you are eligible for one scholarship per session* per child for Eagle Extras (*Please note the Theater exception below.)
  • Theater exceptions to the one class per session rule: Each of the IAA@Irving-Musical Theater and Intro to Theater classes meet twice per week, meaning they will each count as 2x Scholarships. In other words, if an eligible scholarship student chooses to take a Theater class, that student will only qualify for ONE scholarship during the school year. The same student will not be eligible for a second scholarship in the other session of the school year. This can instead be divided into a 50% scholarship per session if the family prefers
• Free/Reduced Lunch: If you already have qualified for free/reduced lunch, you will receive an email from Ms. Mura with a list of codes that will enable you to sign up for a class for free. While these codes you receive will work on all Eagle Extras classes, your student is only eligible for one class per session. If you have more than one student at Irving, each student is eligible for one Eagle Extras class per session. Please do not use the codes to enroll in more than one Eagle Extras class per session. You will be asked to pay for additional classes.
• Not qualified for Free/Reduced Lunch, but have a financial hardship? If you are in need of financial help and are not currently qualified for free/reduced lunch, please email Ms. Mura, [email protected], requesting a scholarship so she can get you the assistance needed to register your child for Eagle Extras.

How to make Eagle Extras work for your family

Need care on a day Eagle Extras doesn’t cover for you to fill in a gap, or need just 1–2 days a week? Starting this year, Magical Minds will offer after-school programming onsite at Irving for 1–5 days a week, alongside Hephzibah and Oak Park Friends School after-school programs. Magical Minds days can be combined with EE to create a customized full week of aftercare for your child (register separately).

• Extended / Aftercare (new this year!): We are partnering with Magical Minds to offer a supervised “extended care” add-on option after your child’s enrichment program ends until 5:30pm, to help accommodate parent pickup timing needs (including aligning sibling pickup times or for families who need a little more time after EE ends). Aftercare will be offered as an add on as part of your EE registration–spots are limited!
• A reminder for Friends & Hephzibah families: you can also have your child picked up from Oak Park Friends School if your child’s EE class ends before 4:30pm (if your child attends there) or sent to Hephzibah for the rest of the day after their Eagle Extras class ends (if your child attends there).
